"Fast, Furious, & Quiet as a Mouse" 2009-08-23
By J. Ferrell (USA)
I was ready to move beyond the days of USB 2.0 and it's 480Meg transfer limits. Tired of waiting on backups to copy to my external drive (literally taking hours). I did some research, and for the money, this drive kit had everything I was looking for.

This thing is FAST! It's like having an internal SATA II drive sitting on your desktop. (Considering that's what ESATA is... well you get the picture).

My backup times were dropped substantially. (Sorry too lazy to do the math and give you an actual percentage...)

The kit which included the E-SATA adapter for my computer case was well worth the extra 5.00 vs the next comparable model. Unfortunately my high dollar ASUS board (P5E) did not include ESATA connectors. This kit remedied the problem. It took all of 5 minutes to install, format, and start using.

It runs cool, lightning fast, and is pretty darn quiet.

Had it at my door in 2 days - packaged quite well.

"a true piece of junk" 2009-09-12
By albert kline (Elkins Park, PA USA)
The first one shipped to me lasted only several weeks. The replacement lasted two years (out of warranty). In both cases my data could not be recovered.

 "13 Months Then DEAD" 2009-08-03
By David G. Pelowitz (Los Alamos, NM USA)
If you plan to use the drive as a backup, DON'T. It has been running fine for about a year now and then all of a sudden it started having problems... When turned on it would show up (USB) for an instant then go away and would repeat this for possibly 5 minutes. Eventually it would calm down and either be available or not until I power cycled it and the whole thing would start over again. The point of this is at under a hundred bucks you get what you pay for. It was a good backup until about a week ago. If you plan on using the drive as a "working" drive and you don't mind a failure (e.g. you've got everything on it backed-up) then caveat emptor!

"Installs and works like a charm" 2009-06-20
By G. Nigrosh (Massachusetts)
Smooth and easy install on my Vista-64 laptop and Vista desktop. Setting up folders and backup schedule (using Genie-Soft)to only minutes.

Only reason for 4 stars rather than 5 is the need to set up on each machine since it can not work off of a router or USB hub

 "Useful" 2009-06-19
By P. Mcintire (Philly)
I've been using this for over a year on my old pc and now my new one. On the old Dell 8400 it was not automatically recognized - Had to manually select it via Disk Management but I think that was because the pc was old as I don't have to do that with the new one. It's quiet and so far I have not had any problems with it at all.

"Do not buy this drive!!!" 2009-06-19
By Lars A. Selen (Phoenix, AZ United States)
Do not buy this drive and beware of any Cavalry drive. Mine crashed after warranty was up and Bason Computer will not even repair it for a charge. In a way they do you a favor, the selection of brand for your replacement drive becomes easier.Cavalry Storage CAXM Series 500 GB USB / eSATA External Hard Drive CAXM37500 - Includes eSATA Kit

"Will not work with TiVo HD" 2009-07-22
By Vic Oros (SJ, CA USA)
Cavalry is currently using a Hitachi HD721010SLA360 and that Hard Drive is not compatible with the TiVo HD.

See here: [...]

So if you want to use the Cavalry as an eSATA HD, it's the luck of the draw, your unit may or may not have a TiVo compatible HD.

 "Good Drive" 2009-07-21

 "Buying 2nd Calvary 1TB" 2009-06-13
By Michael L. Marburger (Houston, TX)
I purchased the 1TB Calvary (CAXB37091T0) in 2008 Dec. Six months in and I am getting another one to clone the original for offsite storage. The hardware has worked flawlessly for me. I am a seasoned IT professional of over 20 years (Unix and Windows administrator). Backing up to an external drive saved me big time. My PC burned up and smoked my 2 internal drives. I restored onto the new hardware with this 1TB drive. I am happy.

"Nice drive quiet. Will not work TIVO HD" 2009-05-26
By ABC Don (Alpharetta, GA)
I bought this for my TIVO HD unit. TIVO rejected the item, since on the my DVR expander will work on my version of TIVO. The drive was quick and quiet, i used to transfer about 20GB of data.

 "Excellent value" 2009-05-22
By S. Callahan
I use it on my laptop through eSATA (the cable is even included, which is not true of most drives.) It is fast, reliable, and VERY quiet. Even after hours of running, its metal case is cool to the touch. With the mail-in-rebate, the price of this drive was unbeatable.

I see no downsides to this drive thus far and would recommend it to anyone!
