I bought a WD300BB (30GB) back in '01 and bought a WD1200JB in '02 to act as a back up drive for a few computers. I got it just in time because after less than 18 months the WD300BB got the click of death. So the WD1200JB became the primary drive for a few months until I bought this drive, the WD1600JB in late '03. While the WD1600JB was shipping, the WD1200JB partially died. I was able to use data recovery software to get most of my data onto the WD1600JB, but it got the click of death in less than a month! 3 dead drives in less than just over 2 years! Western Digital, NEVER AGAIN! I still have a 2GB Seagate from 1996 that works just fine! The rest of my drives are Maxtor, Seagates, and a Hitachi in my laptop. No other brand has failed me so badly as Western Digital.

Everything about this drive is pretty standard. I've had nothing but good luck with WD hard drives, I even have 3 in my home machine. HOWEVER, I bought this particular model around May of 06, and now in July of 07 it has already crashed..
4-8 years is a reasonable life expectancy for WD drives, so this one fails miserably.. Just choose a different model, there are many..
