What can I say? This drive worked great in my macbook. Not tough to install either.

"GREAT except for subtle high pitched noise" 2009-08-30
By that guy
I installed this on my MacBook Pro IntelCore Duo (first generation macbook pro with the intel chip), 2 GB of RAM, 15.4 inch screen, 2.16 ghz

Pros:

1. Size - although advertised as 500GB, it is really more like 465 out of the box. Regardless, it's a decent amount of memory.

2. Reliability - every WD HD I've owned (this is my third) has been excellent, no problems as of yet

3. Speed - movies, documents, music, pictures, all load quickly

Cons:

1. Noise - This is why there are 3 stars instead of 5. There is a subtle, high pitched whirring noise that is noticable only when there are no other sounds in the room. Although it is faint, it is high pitched enough to be quite annoying and bothersome. It's been enough of a problem that I've considered getting a quieter HD and returning this one, but I still haven't decided. What makes the noise even more bothersome is that it isn't constant - for example, if I scroll up and down on a website, the noise stops, but resumes immediately after I stop scrolling. This on and off high pitched whirring sound puts a damper on an otherwise great harddrive.

 "Ecstatic!!" 2009-08-29
By K. Lechliter (Annapolis, MD United States)
I had an HP HDX18T that I purchased in March 2009 w/a Hitachi 320 GB 5400 RPM drive. It started making noise shortly into its life, probably due (in part) to Vista's incessant need to spin it (LSASS and CSRSS EXE's being the main culprits). As an MSDN subscriber I have early access to Microsoft releases, so I downloaded and threw Windows 7 Ultimate on a bare metal Scorpio Blue 500 GB drive. Under Vista it would take 10 minutes to fully boot- 5 minutes (minimum) before the logon screen would show. Well, be it the drive, Winblows 7 Ultimate, or the absence of HP bloatware, I now boot fully in UNDER A MINUTE!! In addition, this drive is SILENT!! For $100 you simply can't go wrong. Not hot at all. VERY happy with this puppy.

"amazing!! perfect for my macbook pro" 2009-08-25
By Shiraz Siddiqui (San Jose, CA)
i just purchased a 13" unibody (late 2009) macbook pro, and when i was prompted to configure it at the apple site i saw the prices and was blown away and what they charged for hard drives, for half the price of what apple was going to charge i got this bad boy and put it in myself :-) i also installed my own ram (Crucial CT2KIT25664BC1067 4GB 204-PIN PC3-8500 SODIMM DDR3 Memory KIT (2GBx2)) and i suggest you do the same if youre thinking about buying a macbook or macbook pro

i have an external 1tb usb hard drive by western digital and love their products, especially their internal drives, i always choose them over seagate when i build custom pc machines

initially when i ordered this product it was a dud and wouldnt mount (show up), so i did an exchange with amazon and they sent me another with 1day shipping, great service, so i got the 2nd drive, threw it into SATA to USB enclosure (Vantec NexStar NST-D100SU 2.5-Inch/3.5-Inch SATA to USB 2.0 and eSATA Hard Drive Dock (White)) and it worked, a couple minutes later reformatted the drive and cloned my existing hard drive on this 500gb one using Super Duper 2.5, and booya, ready for the hard drive swap

works amazing and i recommend it to anyone looking for a larger hard drive for their macbook/pro

"1st month... works for my ps3 so far..." 2009-08-21
By PPLZ (FLO -RIDA)
I've had this beast for about a month and I have to say it works great for my Playstation 3. But I hear in about 13% of other reviews that laptop harddrives in general (like this one) only last them about 6 months. Im hoping I won't be in that unlucky 13% but if it does break soon all my game saves are backed up and my downloaded games are stored on my account which has nothing to do with the hdd. So it wouldn't be a huge loss for me. As far as performance goes it works at about the same speed as the 60gb hdd that came with my ps3 but it has WAAAAY more space Im lovin it!
