Plenty of storage available for the same amount as my desktop computer hard drives. Has higher speed connections for faster Windows Backups. Best with two external hard drives for the desktop computer two hard drives being Raided.

Our WD external failed after 13 months after purchase and WD would do nothing to help us. Content was unrecoverable!

All I had to do was plug it up and it works. One of the best features of this external drive is that it runs silently. One other good thing to, if either of the two drives were to go bad, you can easily replace it. The case is easy to open. If you are in the market for an external drive using firewire I would recommend this drive.

OK drive stand-alone.
But disregard the product info: It does NOT daisy chain on FW800 bus on a Mac. WD Tech Support told me so. They have no fix planned at this time.
If you are serious enough to buy a FW800 drive, you are likely serious enough to want two of them... these do not daisy chain and so you will need to put one on FW400 or USB.

I have been Very happy with my purchase. It runs great on my Macbook pro. I run it in raid 0 as a storage backup for my photography business. It was easy to setup and runs very fast (I run it on FW 800)
I have had not had any problems with heat, though I do not run any programs off it etc. so i am not pushing it all that hard. As it is fanless, it is completely silent.
It also looks much better than the flimsy looking single drive versions IMO.
A+ for my uses.
