Should probably do a video review for this, since the packaging has to be seen to be believed. Drives are working fine so far (I bought 2), but they arrived as two small boxes in a very large shipping box, with very little protection. Inside each of the small boxes was the drive, wrapped in a bubble wrap bag with a couple of those Amazon-y air-filled plastic bags as protection. Not nearly enough to keep them from jostling around during transit. I know these are OEM/Bulk/Bare or whatever you want to call them, but I've never received a drive that wasn't hermetically wrapped in foam for shipment. Very good thing that Amazon has a good return policy.

I got this drive to replace a Maxtor 500gb drive that has way too many bad sectors for being just over a year old. I downloaded the utility from the main website. Plugged this drive in a and let the utility copy everything for me. With a quick reboot i was up and running in no time.

I purchased this drive to replace a Western Digital Caviar Blue 500 GB Bulk/OEM Hard Drive 3.5 Inch, 16 MB Cache, 7200 RPM SATA II WD5000AAKS, which by the way, was amazingly fast and quiet . This drive is just as fast, but too noisy for my taste. I prefer little to no noise from desktop and HTPC builds. This drive is better than many other drives out there, but still gives off noticeable noise. It seems to be the best, most reliable drive on the market for the money so I'm not sure what else to try. I may try the Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB Bulk/OEM Hard Drive 3.5 Inch, 32 MB Cache, 7200 RPM SATA II WD1001FALS but reviews indicate that it's noisy too. Overall, this is an excellent drive for general use and stays very cool.
As with other reviewers, the packaging was terrible. The bare drive was shipped in an antistatic bag with two bubble packs inside a 3"x10"x10" cardboard box. The box was smashed but the drive seemed to work okay, except for the noise. Amazon should at least ship these drives in paper or peanut box filler.

Don't buy it for main OS drive. It is MUCH slower than WD black model, and not so stable. If you want something as a backup drive, this is a very good choice.

I bought 2 of these when I saw the price. So far i have no complaints. The drives work great and are a great addition to my energy efficient yet powerful system. I plan to buy more in the future.
