 "A little noisier than I'd like." 2009-07-17
By S. Kortas (Los Angeles, CA)
I bought this to replace the 250gig drive in the unibody aluminum MacBook 13". The install was quite easy. However this drive behaves a little differently than the stock MacBook drive. The Scorpio is always spinning and that gives out an audible hum. The stock drive is completely silent when not in use making the MacBook dead quiet. I can also hear an annoying read noise every few seconds. I can't quite describe the noise, it's the sound you hear when the drive is accessing data. But when idling, it seems like the head makes the slightest move every 10-15 seconds making that read sound.

The drive is much faster however, that is apparent even during boot up. It also seems to run a little cooler than the stock drive, after hours of use the hand pad over the drive doesn't bare any effect of the drive working.

I'm going to do some research if the noise is standard or just my drive. I might swap the drives again and keep the 500g Scorpio in a USB2.0 case.

"Works great in my Thinkpad x61s" 2009-07-16
By Julie Richer (Washington, DC)
I'm not sure why some reviewers found it noisy. I installed this in my Thinkpad x61s and cannot hear it at all. It is fast and quiet. I would have rated it five stars except that it comes with zero support and zero documentation. For non-techies, details on how I cloned my original c drive to the Scorpio and then swapped the drives are posted here:

This notebook hard drive Western Digital 320GB Scorpio Blue SATAII 5400RPM 2.5IN 8MB Bulk/OEM Hard Drive WD3200BEVTarrived sooner than expected in perfect shape. It installed flawlessly and has performed very well. It is larger and faster than the original hard drive which had died. With our backup system we had our notebook back running in no time. Runs about as warm but more quietly than the original. Very happy.

 "Works great in a PS3" 2009-07-10
By W. Plantz (New Jersey, USA)
The HDD came just in the Amazon box and a bag which was kind of odd but I think that's just because it's OEM, and it works great. And if you are looking for a PS3 HDD upgrade this worked great. I just backed everything up to my external WD HDD and popped out the old 60GB HDD and put the new one in. The PS3 formatted the new drive in about 10 seconds and then a simple restore put all my data back on. On the 400GB about 350-360GB is useable. It's great to not have to worry about having too many demos/videos on my PS3 anymore! Of course, WD never disappoints!

 "Excellent for MacBook" 2009-07-10
By Ioana624 (Memphis, TN, USA)
Hi,

I bought it for my MacBook, and the capacity is more than enough for a student/personal use. It's quite fast, and never had any problems with it (I've had it for 1 year and 1 month). Western Digital is a very good brand!
