I bought this as an external HD for my Macbook. It worked as expected right out of the box. Just plug it in and go. It produces hardly any heat, but I must say I don't usually use it for extended periods of time. It is quite and I was surprised by how small it is. I would not hesitate to buy another one.

I own two of these and love them. You can't beat having nearly 500gb powered by USB. I don't even take my TB with me anymore because I have it by just carrying two of these.
It's not quite 500gb, but that is just like every other memory device you get. They never have exactly what is advertised due to drivers and other junk.

I have to admit I get them because of "my book and passport theme. So neat looking. I recommend to anyone 'cause all you have to do is plug in w/ USB port to your powerbook, etc. I had it for a little over a month now and so far it works fine.
